social enterprise (n.)
'Any earned-income business or strategy undertaken by a nonprofit to
generate revenue in support of its charitable mission "Earned income"
consists of payments received in direct exchange for a product,
service or privilege.'
Although Meinert Schivers & Company is a for-profit company, its dual purpose of management consultancy and education in technology make it a unique company. Social Enterprise, re-applied to for-profit corporations provides a new opportunity for business to revaluate the way in which they operate. We believe corporations have a direct responsibility to the communities in which they take part. The work of community development cannot be primarily left to charitable organizations and government alone; the skill, experience and know how of the business world serves as a critical area of our societies and we believe incorporating these backgrounds and their dissemination into our business mission. There are two ways we translate our advisory services into social benefit. These 2 programs are called Associate Advisory Apprenticeships and 40 + 10.
Associate Advisory Apprenticeships
Associate Advisory Apprenticeships are internships that Meinert Schivers & Company offers to High School seniors to participate in special projects relating to the firm's work. In this capacity, these students are exposed to business analysis and technology related areas of our consultancy and given experience in how to participate and contribute to the team. The Associate Advisory Apprentices are managed by Meinert Schivers & Company Fellows, who are college students selected by the firm to serve as mentors and facilitators to the projects selected for this program.
40 + 10
40 + 10 is a work program where employees work their 40-hour week and in addition volunteer an additional 10 hours to technology volunteer efforts managed by the firm. These efforts include tutoring at local high schools, instruction and lectures at high schools and middle schools and other technology access programs.
